Breast Cancer Awareness Programme 2005

October 27, 2005

Across the globe, October is being observed as World Breast Cancer Day. In the city, renowned actress Jaya Sudha inaugurated the Breast Cancer Awareness Programme at Apollo Cancer Hospital, Hyderabad. Dr. Vijayanand Reddy made a presentation in which he stressed on the need for every woman to begin self examination at the age of 20 itself. After crossing 35 years, every woman should undergo comprehensive diagnosis to check the disease from an early stage itself.

The presentation detailed on the possible measures to lessen the risks of breast cancer. It includes providing adequate exercise to the girl child, practicing a healthy diet, and marriage and pregnancy at the right ages. “Most women, especially urbanites, go in for hormone treatment to prevent aging. It increases the risk to develop breast cancer and it’s better to avoid such treatments as nothing can prevent the process of aging.” Dr. Reddy warned.

The programme had an interactive session in which doctors, patients and breast cancer survivors spoke about the various aspects of the disease. The hospital also released a free CD-ROM which guides women on how to conduct the self examination.
